Biles was last on stage, on the floor exercise, more or less needing to do only a couple of handstands and a cartwheel to clinch the Olympic gold medal for USA. They led from the first rotation – their victory was comprehensive.
Over in the corner someone is hurtling towards a vault, which they will connect with backwards, spring off their hands and flip once or twice.Italy claimed silver and Brazil bronze. Team GB meanwhile finished an agonising fourth. But the focus for many was on one woman alone: Biles.And if she dispelled any lingering doubts with her performance on the vault earlier in the week, she emphatically announced her return to the spotlight on Tuesday.
You could see the smile from the back row as she gathered her chalk bag and took plaudits from her teammates.
