The Dubliner faced extreme turmoil heading into her most recent fight last September, when her uncle took his own life just days before she stepped into the cage.

Dublin MMA star Sinead Kavanagh is eager to get back into the cage and turn in her best performance yet after family tragedy impacted preparations for her last fight.

“I want to get stuck in. Especially when in the last fight I didn’t really perform," said Kavanagh, "My uncle took his own life that week. So I want to get that win again and be there this time fully prepared. The passing of her uncle was yet another obstacle that 38-year-old Kavanagh has had to overcome in her life and career. Long before she ever laced up a pair of gloves as a talented amateur boxer and teammate of Katie Taylor, the Inchicore native was facing turmoil at home.

The resiliency she showed to keep trucking during the darkest days of her life has helped Kavanagh no end in her MMA career. With all that has happened to her, it's no surprise that the teak-tough SBG star is well able to handle adversity in the cage. Perhaps no fight epitomises that toughness more than her clash with Belfast native Leah McCourt in 2022. Seconds into the fight, Kavanagh suffered a catastrophic knee injury that would eventually rule her out for a year. But not before she blew the roof of the 3Arena however with a tremendous show of bottle to earn a decision win over McCourt. The pair were due to fight in March before McCourt pulled out with injury, a development which Kavanagh wasn't surprised about.

With all that she has accomplished in her life and career, a World title still eludes the former boxer. She has fought for one once before when she was beaten by the legendary Cris Cyborg back in 2021, and as she reflects on her decade-long journey in the sport, she makes it clear that her career will feel unfulfilled if she doesn't get to fight for the title one more time.
