Irish singer Sinéad O'Connor's will has been revealed, detailing her wishes for her children and her music after her death in July 2023. The will shows O'Connor's desire for her children to 'milk' her music legacy and includes touching arrangements for her children, including Shane's religious possessions and Yeshua's inheritance of her guitars.
Irish singer Sinéad O'Connor, known for her powerful voice and outspoken nature, left behind a lasting legacy and a detailed will that reveals her wishes for her children and her music. O'Connor tragically passed away at the age of 56 on July 26, 2023, in her London home. Her death certificate attributed it to an 'exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma together with low grade lower respiratory tract infection.
' Nearly two years later, the details of her will have emerged, showing O'Connor's desire for her children to capitalize on her musical inheritance. She also expressed a wish to be laid to rest wearing priest's clothing with a Hebrew bible and her album 'Theology' by her side.O'Connor left a sum of £1.7 million (€2 million) to her children: Jake Reynolds, Brigidine Roisin Waters, and Yeshua Bonadio. After settling debts, funeral expenses, and legal fees, records from Irish probate reduced the estate's value to £1.4 million (€1.6 million), reports the Mirror. Her will, written in 2013 prior to her conversion to Islam, stipulated: 'My children can dispense my ashes as they see fit.' The Sun, which obtained the documents, revealed that the will further directed: 'I direct that after my death, and at the discretion of any of my children who are then over 18, my albums are to be released so as to 'milk it for what it's worth.''The will also contained touching personal arrangements. O'Connor arranged for her son Shane to receive her religious possessions. Tragically, Shane passed away at the tender age of 17 in January 2022 after taking his own life, 18 months prior to his mother's death. His mother Sinéad shared an emotional tribute on social media for her beloved second youngest son, saying: 'Been living as undead night creature since. He was the love of my life, the lamp of my soul. We were one soul in two halves. He was the only person who ever loved me unconditionally. I am lost in the bardo without him.' O'Connor's daughter, Yeshua, inherited her collection of guitars. John, O'Connor's ex-husband from whom she divorced in 1991, was appointed as the executor of her will. As of now, the specifics of O'Connor's British estate remain under wraps. O'Connor was renowned for her powerful voice and social activism, particularly her iconic performance of Bob Marley's 'War' on Saturday Night Live in 1992. She was also known for her outspoken views and her struggles with mental health. Before her passing, O'Connor had shared updates with her fans about her plans to create more music. Her management team later confirmed that she was in the final stages of her 11th studio album, marking her first in nine years. She had also been considering a tour for 2024 and was exploring possibilities to adapt her 2021 memoir, 'Rememberings,' into a film.
