His transition to fences has been seamless, with a sensational debut victory over Ballyburn in the Wayward Lad Novices' Chase at Kempton during the Christmas period. However, the hot favourite for Arkle glory at Cheltenham will encounter a formidable challenge at Newbury. Leading the opposition is Alan King's veteran Edwardstone, who dominated this contest last year, making all to win unchallenged. Other notable contenders include Matata, coming off a 10-length triumph in a competitive Windsor handicap, and Liberty Hunter, who secured another victory at Cheltenham last time out. JPR One brings elite-level form to the table, having finished third behind Sir Gino's stablemate Jonbon in the Tingle Creek at Sandown. Venetia Williams' Djelo, successful at the same Grade Two level in the Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon, will face off against Paul Nicholls' formidable duo, Bravemansgame and Hitman. Nicholls, a previous winner of the race named after his legendary Gold Cup hero a record 10 times, will be hoping for another triumph. Furthermore, Colin Tizzard's Eldorado Allen, who won the Denman Chase in 2022, returns seeking another victory. The race will also feature Fugitif, Ga Law, Le Patron, and the veteran Sam Brown.
