Manchester United spent months pursuing him, but Dan Ashworth's sudden departure from Old Trafford appears to have proven two things about Sir Jim Ratcliffe
The departure of Dan Ashworth proved Sir Jim Ratcliffe is not afraid to pivot on a bold decision at Manchester United.
But while it remains to be seen whether United will benefit in the long run from Ashworth's departure, two things are clear about Ratcliffe - he's not afraid to make a tough decision, but his judgement isn't always best. After United sacked Ten Hag with the club 14th in the Premier League, it's likely Ratcliffe and his team decided to change their approach when it came to making big decisions. Ashworth's exit appears to be a sign that Ratcliffe will be quicker to pull the plug on things he does not believe are best for Man United.
His responsibilities included overall football performance, recruitment and operations, and he also worked closely with technical director Jason Wilcox. He was one of many United executives who supported the decision to extend Ten Hag's contract in the summer and was the person whose words were quoted in the announcement.
