Blackpool holidaymakers Carmen and Faith are enjoying a four-day trip, journeying 5,500 miles from the tiny island of St Helena to do so
But for two sisters such a journey is worth it, particularly when Blackpool and its famous landmarks are the end goal. Sisters Carmen and Faith Rogers hail from one of the most remote islands on Earth - Saint Helena in the South Atlantic Ocean.
Travelling from Saint Helena to Johannesburg is exactly what the sisters did, but they also then made a 13 hour flight to the United Kingdom on top of that. But this wasn't to visit the bright lights of London. Rather, it was to visit the seaside town of Blackpool with their own eyes. Visiting for four days, Carmen explained the route from their remote island to get to the UK and what their plans are for the trip. She added: "It's a well-known tourist attraction and we're really looking forward to it. We've only just got here and all we've done is eat, but we're going to do the attractions."
Seeing as it's so small and remote, it comes as no surprise that the population of Saint Helena is just 4,439 according to the 2021 Census and it consists of a tight-knit low-crime community. The whole island is just 45 square miles and is a third of the size of the Isle of Wight - the same size as Disney World in Orlando.
