A six-year-old girl has passed away in hospital due to injuries sustained in a road crash in Co Westmeath 10 days ago. The young girl was a passenger in a car that was involved in a serious single-vehicle road traffic collision on the M6 eastbound between Junction 4 (Tyrellspass) and Junction 3 (Rochfortbridge) in Westmeath.

The accident occurred shortly before 4pm on Thursday, February 8.
The girl was seriously injured in the crash and was rushed to Children's Health Ireland at Temple Street where, sadly, she was pronounced deceased yesterday, February 17. The coroner has since been notified and arrangements are in the process of being made for a post-mortem examination. The other two occupants of the car involved in the collision, a man aged in his 40s and a nine-year-old boy, escaped serious injury. Mullingar Gardai continue to investigate all circumstances surrounding the collision and investigators have renewed their appeal for witnesses
