It was apparent that Embiid was moving at less than 100 percent, but there were some encouraging signs. Specifically, his rim protection was excellent: Embiid had five blocks in the first half by displaying short-area quickness and a good change of direction.Some may wonder why Embiid played at all. That brings us to the concept of rest versus rust. Coming off a two-week layoff where he hardly played any basketball, Embiid realistically was not going to be very sharp in his first game back. Might he be better Friday in Philly because he got some cardio and game action in Boston? That is what he, and the Sixers, are counting on.“The way we saw it, with what I have, it’s supposed to be out for four to six weeks or something like that,” Embiid said.
Defensively, Embiid proved that his mere presence positively changes things for the Sixers. It’s much harder for the Celtics to parade to the rim like we saw in Game 1. But he’s a rhythm offensive player, and after a two-week layoff in which he played very little basketball, that rhythm was not there in Boston.
Joel Embiid on returning today vs. Friday:"With what I have, I'm supposed to be out 4-6 weeks. I'm not going to be 100% that whole time. I felt pretty good to play… If I would have come back in Game 3, probably be rusty and not myself. I feel like I got this out of the way."
