DCN-JOC News ServicesTORONTO — Registration is now open for Skills Ontario’s International Day of the Girl Celebration, which aims to recognize and inspire girls across the province to build their skills, conquer boundaries and explore their career pathways.hosting two in-person conferences on Wednesday, Oct. 11.

The virtual series of events, running on Oct. 4, includes hands-on challenges, and a virtual series called A Sit Down with… which will feature skilled tradespeople, Dee Durant, Jessica Duquette, Kendra Liinamaa and Mira Polski. Through experiential learning, mentorship and networking opportunities, Skills Ontario’s Young Women’s Initiatives program has reached thousands of young women with a goal to inspire them to explore career paths they may have never considered before or might have even been discouraged from considering, states a release.

The program is an Employment Ontario program funded in part by the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario and program sponsors are Magna International and General Motors. “At Magna, we recognize the immense value of supporting young girls in STEM and skilled trades,” said Jennie Ecclestone, director of talent attraction and recruitment marketing at magna, in a statement. “By providing equal opportunities and breaking down gender barriers, we not only foster diversity and inclusivity, but also drive innovation, address the skills gap, and shape a talented workforce for the future.
