IBAL praised Sligo in particular for its"top-ranking" approach roads, “exceptionally freshly presented” retail park and the “complete absence of litter” throughout the Great War Memorial Garden. The group also said its latest survey shows a lot of progress in urban areas which were previously litter blackspots. Dublin's North Inner City, Cork's Northside and Ballybane in Galway, have improved to 'moderately littered' and, for the first time, only one of the 40 urban areas surveyed, Limerick City, was branded as littered.
Spokesperson for Irish Business Against Litter, Conor Horgan, said there was good news for urban areas which were previously deemed litter 'blackspots'.
"Congratulations once again to Sligo, which has finished ahead of Monaghan and Leixlip at the top of our table. But there's good news at the foot of the table as well.nce again, we have no area deemed a litter blackspot, no area deemed seriously littered, and those previously littered urban areas we've talked so much about, they've all progressed from littered to moderately littered".
