Rory McIlroy is also in the field ahead of next week's Masters.
There were slow starts at the Valero Texas Open for both Padraig Harrington and Seamus Power on Day One of the tournament.
With just one space left up for grabs at Augusta, the winner of this week's event will earn an invite to the first major of the season. The three-time major winner carded two birdies on the day but had bogeys on the fourth, seventh, 13th and the par five 14th and 18th. The Waterford man carded eight pars on the front nine with a sole blemish on the par-four sixth hole. Power did card two birdies on the back nine but bogeys on the 13th and 18th leaves him in and around the very early cut line.
