Acquired at trade deadline to boost offense, Trey Mancini has been quiet to start ALCS
Houston Astros designated hitter Trey Mancini walks through the dugout after flying out during the seventh inning of Game 3 of the American League Division Series against the Seattle Mariners on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, in Seattle.NEW YORK — Trey Mancini stared back at the mound inside Yankee Stadium and smacked line drives into the outfield.
“I just hope and feel that he's about to break loose with some big hits for us,” Baker said on Saturday, as the Astros attempted to claim two victories and end the Yankees’ season before returning to Houston. Game 3 was his first appearance in the ALCS. Mancini lined a deep fly to left-center field in the top of the second inning, nearly reaching the 399-foot mark before ending up with a long out. The hard crack was a reminder of what Mancini could still bring to the Astros if he can suddenly heat up as November approaches.
Asked about the playoff struggles of Jose Altuve — who fell to 0-for-25 early in Game 3 — and Mancini, Baker responded with a personal answer that focused on belief. For Mancini to regain his stroke and aid the Astros during the final days of the 2022 season, the team must also believe in its biggest trade-deadline acquisition.
