People who use wheelchairs and canes to get around can’t move through snow and ice.
“Knowing that it’s about to snow just makes me feel anxious,” said Tanisha Sepuldiva. “For us, it’s just not a fun day out in the snow. It’s a lack of access to places we need to go.”
For Sepuldiva, when you rely on a wheelchair, snow means you can’t get groceries, make it to medical appointments, and have no other choice but to rely on the help of others. In Sepuldiva’s Highland Park neighborhood of Seattle, some sidewalks are clear, while others remain covered with snow.According to the Seattle Department of Transportation, once the first snowflake falls, people have 12 hours to clear a 36-inch-wide path on sidewalks next to their properties.
