The Met Office has issued snow and ice warnings covering the entirety of the west coast of Scotland. Forecasters predict between 2cm and 5cm of snow widely across parts of Strathclyde, with up to 10cm expected in northern and western parts of the mainland.
The warning for snow covers Glasgow commuter areas including Ayr, Prestwick, and Greenock, but the weather warning does not cover the city. Above 300 metres, the Met Office is expecting snow of up to 20cm. Ice is also expected to form on untreated surfaces, especially after dark. The warning for Argyll and Bute and North Ayrshire is active from 10am today to midday Thursday .
Warnings for snow and ice have also been issued for the north and north east of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, the entirety of the east coast of England, the West Midlands and much of the south and south east of England. Drivers are warned of delays and dangerous conditions, and to make sure they have warm clothing, food, water, a blanket, a torch, an ice scraper, a warning triangle, high visibility vest and a phone charger in the car.
The Met Office is warning of a small chance of power cuts and a slight chance that rural communities could be cut off. There is a small chance that air and rail travel could be cancelled, as well as travel delays with some stranded vehicles and passengers.Join Glasgow Live's WhatsApp community here and get the latest news sent straight to your messages.
