It emerged last week that Mr Hayes, the party’s newly elected TD in Dublin Bay South, worked for US firm Palantir for two years nearly eight years ago. He only sold his shares in the company this year.

Newly elected Social Democrats TD Eoin Hayes refused to confirm over two dozen times when he sold shares in a software company that supplies the Israeli Defence Forces.

On October 6 2023, the day before the Hamas strike on Israel, share prices in Palantir were $16.61. On June 7 2024, the day of the local elections when Mr Hayes won a Dublin City Council seat, they had risen to $23.31. "The only reason you know about the shares is because I was transparent about them and I made them in those ethics declarations," he continued.

Mr Hayes continuously said he had divested the shares "this year" and "before he entered politics" but refused to confirm what month. When Mr O’Callaghan was asked if he believed Mr Hayes should answer questions about when he divested the shares, he repeatedly said, "Eoin has answered your questions".
