Ireland's 2025 Budget includes a significant increase in weekly social welfare rates starting January 1st, 2025. While many payments will see increases, five key allowances remain unchanged.
Budget 2025 , announced in October, has brought several changes into effect. These include a cost of living bonus, electricity credit, and more. A significant change taking effect from January 1st, 2025, is an increase in core weekly social welfare rates. However, five major groups will not see any increase in their payments: Back To School Clothing and Footwear Allowance, Child Benefit, Fuel Allowance, Living Alone Increase, and Island Increase.
The maximum weekly rate for Maternity Benefit, Adoptive Benefit, Paternity Benefit, and Parent’s Benefit will rise by €15. The Increase for a Qualified Child (IQC) will be renamed the Child Support Payment, with a €4 increase for children under 12 (€46 to €50) and an €8 increase for children aged 12 and over (€54 to €62). All other weekly social welfare payments will increase by €12, with proportional increases for qualified adults and those on reduced rates. Alongside weekly increases, the Domiciliary Care Allowance will see a €20 monthly rise, and the Carer's Support Grant will increase by €150 annually. Working Family Payment income limits will rise by €60 per week for all family sizes, while the Carer's Allowance income disregard will increase to €625 for single persons and €1,250 for couples next July. Carer’s Allowance will also become a qualifying payment for Fuel Allowance. These changes are set to begin on January 1st, 2025, as part of the 2025 Budget
