“We wrote this song while we were in Florida in the middle of quarantine,” Sofi Tukker – the duo of Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern – tellsin a statement. “We were dreaming about the energy of the city in the summer, of being with friends, of serendipity and adventure. The fact that now that is happening in real life still blows our mind.

“Summer” benefits from a familiar interpolation of DNA’s “Tom’s Diner,” featuring Suzanne Vega, a No. 5 hit on theand a No. 7-peaking single on Alternative Airplay in 1990. “Diner,” originally recorded by Vega a cappella on her 1987 album Solitude Standing, resurged this spring on the LyricFind Global list , aided by AnnenMayKantereit and Giant Rooks’ version, which hit No. 8 on Hot Rock & Alternative Songs .

“Summer” is from Sofi Tukker’s Wet Tennis, which debuted at its No. 12 high on Top Dance/Electronic Albums in May.
