Distributed global workforces. Accelerated cloud and digital transformation. Sophisticated, AI-powered security threats. Economic uncertainty and growing budgetary pressures. These developments, intensified by the pandemic, created a growing identity and access management challenge that no organization can ignore: the fragmentation of user identities across systems and software.
Too many organizations are simply piecemealing a bunch of endpoint solutions. This approach increases their tech spend but doesn’t actually solve the identity crisis. In 2021, enterprise IT teams juggled anthat in 2023, IAM was the second-most popular topic of discussion among industry leaders looking for their insight, and two in three organizations expect to increase investment in IAM capabilities. Flexible and adaptable approaches to IAM can strengthen security—but there’s still a way to go.
Passwordless authentication could eventually solve these challenges—but that reality is still pretty far out for most organizations. For small- and medium-sized organizations, according to JumpCloud's own research,password-based authentication, at least with some of their IT resources. Passwords being incredibly vulnerable to attacks isn’t news. But that hasn’t led to a massive change in user behavior—they still regularly reuse passwords or create weak or easily guessable ones.
With user identities and access permissions scattered across multiple systems, IT teams operate without an accurate or comprehensive view of the technology stack. Vulnerabilities exist through shadow IT and unauthorized access, risking the kind of potential data breaches that you don’t recover from.
