The Lancashire resident said it was shocking how a 'few vertical lines' costs so much
A Blackburn resident fighting for a disabled parking bay for his parents has expressed his shock at a council boss’s claim it costs £1,100 to mark one out on the road.
Mr Valimulla of Walter Street, Audley, pleaded with the borough’s executive board earlier this month to reverse the refusal to grant a concessionary bay saying common sense must prevail over the policy of insisting on a 40 metre distance between the special disabled parking spaces. He said it had led to arguments in the street between his parents and a nearby resident with a bay outside his house.
“I am also quite dumbfounded to learn that to paint a disabled bay cost the council £1,100. This is simply quite shocking that a few vertical lines can cost so much. This surely needs reviewing to bring the cost down.” “This includes obtaining and processing the relevant documents, carrying out an on-site visit, consulting with neighbours, erecting the pole and sign and marking out the bay on the public highway. The lining of the bay is a small element of the costs involved.
