Women typically have less saved in their retirement funds compared to men and a recent study revealed 44% of women feel scared when they think about their retirement

Sonya Lennon is a woman on a mission. The presenter is doing her best to remove the fear factor around financial planning and inspire women to take action with their pension.

Sonya’s podcast series with Standard Life, The Ultimate Guide for Women and Pensions, aims to demystify pensions and financial planning and shake up how women approach that phase of their lives. Speaking to RSVP Live, Sonya said: “A lot of women are really challenged when it comes to talking about money, now or in the future. It’s terrifying to think that 44% of women are scared when they think about retirement. How do we change that future statistic right now? That’s what the podcast is all about”.

While women are often forced to pause their pension contributions while on maternity leave or out of work to care for family members, Sonya is adamant women don’t fall into the trap of relying on their partner’s pension to support them in later life.
