Sophie O'Sullivan Sets New 800m Personal Best in Brescia as Irish Athletes Shine Across Europe
Sophie O'sullivan, 800M, Grand Prix Brescia

Sophie O'Sullivan ran a personal best of 1:58.60 to finish second at the Grand Prix Brescia, moving to second on the all-time Irish 800m list. Rhasidat Adeleke placed sixth in the 200m, while Andrew Coscoran and Sarah Lavin competed in Berlin and Sophie Becker rose to second on the Irish all-time 300m list in Poland.

Sophie O'Sullivan has produced one of the most impressive performances of her young career, setting a new personal best over 800m while finishing in second place at a high-profile meeting in Italy.

The Irish middle-distance runner clocked 1:58.60 at the Grand Prix Brescia, a Continental Tour Silver event, surpassing her previous best and confirming her status as one of the rising talents in Irish athletics. With that result, O'Sullivan moves to second on the all-time Irish list over the distance, trailing only Ciara Mageean, who remains the standard bearer in the event for Ireland. Her breakthrough comes at a time when Irish middle-distance running continues to build momentum on the international stage.

The Brescia meeting also featured another Irish standout, Rhasidat Adeleke, who competed in the women's 200m. The Dublin sprinter, fresh from her silver medal at the European Championships, crossed the line in 22.85, placing sixth in a competitive field. The race was won by Nigeria's Favour Ofili, who posted a swift 22.03 to take the victory.

Despite finishing outside the podium positions, Adeleke's performance continues to underline her consistency at the top level of European and global sprinting, and she remains a central figure in Ireland's sprinting future. Across the continent in Berlin, further Irish athletes were in action at the ISTAF 2026, another Continental Tour Silver meeting. European bronze medallist Andrew Coscoran finished seventh in the men's 1500m, crossing the line in 3:34.37, with Australia's Cameron Myers claiming the win in 3:30.96.

Sarah Lavin also featured in the German capital, posting 13.40 in the women's 100m hurdles to take eighth place. Elsewhere, at the Memorial Zbigniewa Ludwichowskiego in Poland, a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze event, Sophie Becker ran a strong race over 300m. Her time of 36.99 was enough for third place and elevated her to second on the Irish all-time list for the event, capping a productive weekend for Irish athletes competing across Europe
