Spencer Grammer set the record straight about the severe hand injury she sustained two years ago: “I tried to alleviate a fight.”

is setting the record straight about what really happened when she was stabbed back in the summer of 2020.was trying to break up a fight in New York City when she sustained a severe hand injury, severing her median nerve and two tendons. She explained in an interview with, “I haven't really talked about it before. But everybody else that wrote about it at the time got it wrong. I tried to alleviate a fight.

After going through that ordeal, the actor said she will always be a little bit afraid of public arguments as “I know that within five minutes your whole life can change, so it's better to be safe than sorry,” she said. But even so, it's not always easy to not get involved. “I think you're just one of those people who runs to help or you don't,” Grammer explained. “It's just in you. And I probably would do that same thing again if I went back in time.

One of those ways the traumatic event has majorly impacted how she goes about her day is that following the stabbing she had to undergo surgery to repair her damaged nerves which involved a lengthy recovery process and made her unable to perform many basic tasks. “My son had to tie my shoes for six months,” she said, referring to her 11-year-old child,. “I'm only now at peace with being able to work again and perform at the productivity level I'd like to.

But now she's back on screen for the first time since the incident, starring opposite her dad—also for the first time—in the Lifetime holiday film. “It was so much fun,” she enthused of the filming process. “But I still don't have feeling in most of my hand. Sometimes I can't button things, or put in an earring. So there was always this worry that I was going to need to do something on set and not be able to do it.
