Pat Spillane reckons Joe Brolly has got it wrong over Paddy Tally's appointment as Derry manager, saying without Tally there would have been no All-Ireland for Kerry in 2022.
Pat Spillane says his "great friend Joe Brolly played the man and not the ball" over the coach he says won Kerry the 2022 All-Ireland title.
Tally was set to take over from Clare All Star hurler Tony Griffin in the role, with Cian O’Neill coming in from Galway as lead coach. “All I can say to Paddy is 'Yes, Joe was harsh, but having worked with Joe for many years, I can tell you this - if Derry win the All-Ireland he will be the first man to write an article praising you and your success.'”
"And we saw that in the great counties that flourish - Kilkenny hurling, Limerick hurling, Kerry football, Dublin football, Tyrone football - they wouldn't hear of an outside manager." “He will have the dressing room on his side too. We don’t know the entire story of what happened in 2024, but it’s fair to say Mickey Harte didn’t have the full dressing room. A team with any hope of going all the way needs everyone pulling in the same direction.
