Budget carrier Spirit Airlines is adding three new routes from DFW International Airport in the spring, with new flights to Newark, San Diego and American...
It’s part of a plan for Spirit to boost flights out of North Texas by 20% by April, bringing the total number of nonstop routes to 17.
Spirit will launch the flights on April 12 from DFW to Newark Liberty International Airport, San Diego International Airport and Charlotte Douglas International Airport. But along with the expansion out of DFW, Spirit is also dropping its daily flight to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport in January.“The routes have nothing to do with the future merger with JetBlue,” Hofmeyer said. “We expect regulatory review to go through in early 2024, so we’re business as usual and continue to compete.
There are about 10 flights a day from DFW to Charlotte alone, giving steep competition to anything Spirit can offer.
