The much loved late broadcaster has an association with the institute, having been granted a fellowship in 2009.

Munster Technological University is to name the sports hall on its Kerry campus after the late Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh.

The legendary commentator passed away last June at the age of 93 and though he lived away from Kerry for decades, his identity with the county never diminished and he was laid to rest in Dingle. He had an association with the college, formerly known as IT Tralee, too as it honoured him with a fellowship back in 2009. He also made a contribution to fundraising efforts for the college’s sports academy, which opened in the college’s north campus in Tralee in 2019, and so it is fitting that his name is attached to the sports hall.
