The Cooks Peak Fire, one of the largest wildfires burning in the Southwest, has consumed more than 50,000 acres in northern New Mexico. New Mexico Gov. Grisham has declared a state of emergency due to the multiple wildfires raging through the state.

The fire danger also extended to the Midwest, where at least one person was killed in Red Willow County, Nebraska, the state's emergency management agency announced in a press release.
