Star Wars actor Michael Culver, who played Captain Lorth Needa, has died Star Wars actor Michael Culver has died aged 85. He played Captain Lorth Needa in the 1980 film The Empire Strikes Back, and later went to star in the likes of A Passage to India, in which he played Major McBryde. His agents confirmed his death in a statement, saying: ‘We are very sad to confirm the passing of our friend and client Michael Culver.
In the 1960s, he turned to working in front of the camera, appearing in a string of TV shows and films – including Goodbye, Mr Chips, Man in a Suitcase and The First Churchills. He starred in The Return of Sherlock Holmes His first recognisable role was in 1977, playing Donald Maclean in a documentary drama about the Cambridge spies.
