which suggested that Rishi Sunak doesn’t believe child abusers should face jail time, and criticised the Prime Minister as “out of touch”.
Sir Keir also denied that it was inappropriate to use a photograph of the UK’s first British Asian prime minister in the advert when there have been several high-profile cases of Asian grooming gangs. The Labour leader said his party was “running a very positive campaign” ahead of the local elections,“We’re hoping to make progress, and I’m humble about this I know we’ve got to earn every vote, but we do want to make progress,” he added.
Sir Keir added that he was told when he became Labour leader that he would “never turn it around in a five-year parliament”, but that people were now asking “why aren’t you further ahead”.Speaking on the same programme, Transport Secretary Mark Harper said the party was “obviously fighting very hard for every vote”, and accepted that projections suggested the Conservatives were on track for massive losses.
He also responded to Labour’s attack ads, claiming he believed the public would view the claims made by the opposition as “nonsense”.
