The Irish Mirror understands that plans limiting the amount of time a Ukrainian refugee can spend in State-provided accommodation to 90 days is expected to return to Cabinet next week.

“The status quo cannot continue” when it comes to support being offered to Ukrainian refugees, Higher Education Minister Simon Harris has stated.

Minister Harris on Thursday said that while Ireland stands “full square behind Ukraine”, Ireland needs to ensure that the supports offered to Ukrainian refugees are “sustainable”. “We want to be able to continue to support. It is done from a place of good, as many European countries are doing." “Cabinet meetings are private. But I think what Minister O’Gorman was doing, quite rightly, was highlighting to colleagues a real issue that we need to grapple with.

Elsewhere, at the Climate Summit in Trinity College Dublin, the Tánaiste refuted suggestions he was “blindsided” at Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting when the topic of support for Ukrainian refugees was brought up.
