The unsettled weather is expected to persist throughout the weekend, with the possibility of heavy rain in many areas.
Two counties remain under a Status Yellow rain warning this morning as much of the country wakes up to downpours. There remains a risk of spot flooding, poor visibility, and difficult traveling conditions in the counties of Cork and Waterford as spells of heavy rain batter the south of Ireland this morning, Friday February 14.
Met Eireann's Status Yellow rain warning for Cork is set to expire at 8am, while Waterford will have to endure the wet conditions for a little while longer, with the weather warning staying in place until midday. This comes ahead of a weekend that will be dominated by unsettled weather as the risk of heavy rain will never be too far away for most areas. \Issuing Met Eireann's latest forecast, a spokesperson said: 'Damp and blustery this morning with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. More persistent rain will develop for a time in the south and west, heavy at times with spot flooding in the south. The rain will gradually clear from southwest and west by the afternoon with sunny spells developing and highest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees. Cooler in the north and east, where it will become drier through the evening and highest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees. Moderate to fresh southeast winds will ease through the afternoon. ' Mostly cloudy tonight with patchy light rain or drizzle, most frequent in the south and east and driest in the west. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 7 degrees, mildest in the south. Light to moderate east or southeast breezes will allow fog patches to develop. 'Mostly cloudy tomorrow with fog slow to clear in places. There will be further patches of rain and drizzle too but dry intervals as well. During the evening, there is the chance of more persistent rain moving into the southwest. Highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees generally but 5 to 9 degrees for Ulster. Light to moderate east or southeast winds. 'Of Sunday, they added: 'Rain over the southwestern half of the country in the morning will become patchier with good dry intervals developing for the afternoon with some hazy sunny spells. Largely cloudy elsewhere with patchy rain and drizzle at times. Highest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees generally, milder in the southwest with moderate, occasionally fresh southeasterly winds.
