League of Ireland side St Patrick’s Athletic are in Turkey for their Europa Conference League play-off second leg against Istanbul Basaksehir.
Stephen Kenny says qualification for the Europa Conference League group stages would be life-changing for his St Patrick’s Athletic stars.
“They have been champions of Turkey and been in the Champions League group stages and been in successive group stages of European competition, would be strong favourites. Both Kenny and his coach Brian Gartland were part of the Dundalk side that made the Europa League in 2016, as manager and player respectively.
“But I couldn’t get a mortgage, I couldn’t even save for a deposit. Whatever money I was earning was going straight out on rent and bills. Pat’s were the better team over 90 minutes last week and should have taken a lead into today’s second leg.
