Garfitt says: “It is a sad fact that more people than ever facing the reality of living with dementia in the UK. There are currently approximately 900,000 people with dementia in the UK and this number is expected to rise to 1.6 million by 2040. It is important to take stock and review your affairs.
” Lasting power of attorney A lasting power of attorney (LPA) allows people of your choosing to manage your affairs on your behalf if you are no longer able to. You can create one power of attorney for property and financial affairs, and one for health and welfare. Without a power of attorney no one can automatically step in to manage your affairs, not even a spouse. Your family would need to apply to the Court of Protection.
