He’ll be back in North Texas on Saturday, Sept. 17, when the Steve Miller Band performs at the Will Rogers Auditorium in Fort Worth. The quintet is playing all of Miller’s hits from the ‘70s and early ‘80s, a long list that includes “Fly Like An Eagle,” “Take the Money and Run” and “The Joker,” his first No. 1 single.
Then my dad took me to see Les Paul. When I saw Mary Ford singing harmony and Les Paul playing guitar, that was it for me. That’s all I ever wanted to do. He’d record Sister Rosetta Tharpe and all these other musicians when they came to town. My parents loved musicians. They’d have parties on Sunday afternoons and invite musicians over for home-cooked meals and drinking and playing music. As little kids, we just loved it.
They should have a statue of T-Bone in Dallas. At the state fairgrounds, instead of Big Tex, they should put up T-Bone Walker.
