Despite hours of deliberating Tuesday, jurors have not decided on a verdict in the Antonio Armstrong Jr. capital murder trial — a second attempt at prosecuting the defendant in the 2016 death of his parents following a mistrial.

Judge Kelli Johnson, who oversaw the first attempt to prosecute Armstrong Jr. in 2019, excused the sequestered jurors to their hotel around 7 p.m. and told them to return in the morning. Lawyers for both sides left the courtroom without explanation. The jurors, like the ones before them, have been taking their time with deliberations. They frequently beckoned the court with questions, ranging from what witnessed testified and when lunch would be served. About two hours after lunch, they needed an afternoon stroll.
