Drivers on Highway 101 in Monterey County may want to check traffic maps before hitting the road: Heavy rain caused significant flooding south of Salinas Tuesday morning.
Through the morning there was an approximately 3-mile backup through the town of Chualar; around noon, that normally zippy drive took northbound motorists nearly 25 minutes, according to Google Maps. As of 1 p.m. flooding was easing and the roadway was returning back to normal, but with stormy conditions in theCalifornia Highway Patrol started receiving calls for flooding on the highway around 7:30 a.m. At one point, at least one lane was fully closed due to rising flood waters.
