The state forecaster has now split the orange alert into two separate warnings. The first orange warning applies to Cork, Kerry and Waterford and is valid between 7am and 2pm on Saturday. "Winds increasing further by early tomorrow as #StormKathleen brings damaging gusts. More heavy rain tonight also with risk of some thundery downpours," he said.
"Total rainfall forecast up to Monday night from ECMWF and UK models. A lot of rain coming Sunday night and Monday with risk of flooding in parts of South especially," he said.Met Eireann Deputy Head of Forecasting, Liz Coleman warned people to plan their journeys in advance of the storm's arrival and urged them to stay informed of the latest weather forecasts.
She added: "There will be dangerous conditions at sea too, coupled with wave overtopping and coastal flooding in some areas.” Saturday Night: Clear spells and scattered heavy showers. Very windy and unsettled with strong and gusty southerly winds, especially strong along western counties. Lowest temperatures of 6°C to 8°C.
