Should there be another named storm in Ireland in the remaining three months of the current storm season, it will be named Storm Lilian and it will break records
With two Status Orange warnings and multiple Status Yellow warnings issued amid thunderstorms earlier this week, Ireland was on the verge of experiencing its latest ‘named storm’ to follow Storm Kathleen in early April.
“Each of the three meteorological services contributed seven names to this season’s list. Met Éireann chose names of eminent Irish/Northern-Irish scientists, to honour their important contributions to science and benefits for humankind.” Storms in the 2023/24 season Storm Lilian, if it arrives and is eventually named, would make it the 12th storm of the 2023/24 season, which would be a record after there were 11 named storms in the 2015/16 and 2017/18 seasons.
