Gordon Lyons, the DUP Minister with the sports portfolio, says any additional public spend on the west Belfast stadium will have to be balanced against current demands

Photograph: Liam McBurney/PAMinister for Communities Gordon Lyons, of the DUP, made the remarks on Wednesday while insisting that any additional public spend on the west Belfast stadium would have to be signed off by the Executive and balanced against current demands.
Pledges were made by the Irish Government to commit £42 million towards the project, regardless of whether it would be completed on time for the Euros. Mr Lyons said the GAA needed to “look again” at its original contribution of £15 million towards Casement Park.“If there is an additional contribution being looked from elsewhere, if the GAA are looking for a stadium that will require more than the resource that is currently there, I think it is right that additional resource comes from the GAA also.”
“There was a good exchange of opinions and views,” he said. “I think that there has been frustration, that’s obvious, and I think everybody has been frustrated about how long this has gone on.”
