Multiple weather forecasters predict a stormy period leading into 2025, with potential for strong winds and rain on New Year's Day. While uncertainty remains, models suggest a risk of a storm developing between New Year's Eve and January 2nd, potentially bringing colder temperatures and even snow.

New Years Eve is a time for celebration, but it might just be a very stormy one as we enter 2025. A number of weather forecast ers are predicting that we may see a very unsettled and stormy period in the coming days, with the new year beginning with some volatile conditions. The weather has been very mild but damp over the Christmas period. Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather said that not all weather models develop in the same way, but at the moment, it looks like there is potential for a storm.

He said: 'There will be some patchy rain at times, mainly in the north and northwest but a lot of uncertainty as we head towards New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.' 'It does look like there's a risk of a storm developing, the latest weather models show the wind speed, and as you see, the wind possibly increasing to very strong on New Year's Day.' 'Not all weather models develop the storm in the same way. 'Once that storm does pull through, if it is a storm, it will turn much colder but it looks only to be very short, only a couple of days.' Meanwhile, Kenneth from the Donegal Weather Channel posted to X to say that a 'very stormy' period may develop. 'There are signals on forecasting models over the past few days including this evenings that there is a risk of a very stormy period at some stage between new years eve and the 2nd of January with the risk of a number low pressure systems moving in from the Atlantic.' 'There is also a potential of these low pressure systems bumping into colder air bringing wintry conditions with falls of snow but this much is uncertain yet.' 'There are strong signals for cold conditions moving into the first few days of the new year and this still looks likely
