Morecambe RNLI volunteers were called to the incident near the River Keer in Carnforth
Morecambe RNLI was called to help with the rescue of the animal that had become stuck near the River Keer in Carnforth. With the help of the inshore rescue hovercraft, they were able to free the animal.
The stranded porpoise was then released back into open water near Heysham Harbour. The animal was then seen swimming off strongly into the water.A spokesperson for Morecambe Lifeboat said: "The inshore rescue hovercraft launched with Ross Simpson in command. The crew were tasked to support the British Marine Divers Life Rescue alongside Arnside Coastguard and Bay Search and Rescue
"The stranded harbour porpoise was transferred into the hovercraft for transportation to open water near Heysham Harbour. Sarah from BMDLR reported that she swam off really strongly once returned to open water."
