Tarmac laid within an area of white paving may be in place for weeks

Nottingham City Council says Tarmac laid within an area of white paving may be in place for 12 weeks due to waiting times for materials. Pictures have been circulating on social media showing the impact of recent works outside the Government's Unity Square building off Sheriffs Way.

One person on Twitter wrote: "Maintenance required on underground workings and this is how it ended... Disgraceful." Nottingham City Council has now confirmed that emergency works had to be carried out in the area by Western Power Distribution. The council said: "Tarmac was laid temporarily to make the site safe and usable until the new paving slabs can be laid. York Stone is on order to repair the paving and will be installed by Western Power as soon as it arrives."This may not be for another 12 weeks due to long lead times on materials. Both Western Power and Nottingham City Council are working closely together to get the area back to its original specification.

The area also lies opposite Nottingham's train station. The Unity Square building hit the headlines last year after people walking past questioned why all of its lights were still on at night despite it being empty.
