Streaming Highlights: Chad Powers Returns, The Grand Tour Passes the Keys, and a Spanish Sherlock Holmes Arrives
Chad Powers, The Grand Tour, Slow Horses

A round-up of the latest streaming offerings, including Glen Powell's return as disguised quarterback Chad Powers, a revamped Grand Tour with YouTube petrolheads, an Australian missing-persons thriller starring Patrick Bramall, a prep-school rowing drama, the new season of Slow Horses, a Reacher spin-off led by Maria Sten, and a Spanish detective series inspired by Arturo Pérez-Reverte.

Glen Powell puts the prosthetics back on to turn himself into the college-football phenom Chad Powers for a second season of the sports comedy. Powell plays the former star quarterback Russ Holliday, whose career has imploded following a disastrous on-pitch error.

With his name now dirt, Russ decides to don a disguise to get back in the game as Chad, a good ol' southern boy, and leading the struggling South Georgia Catfish team to glory. But can he keep the Chad deception going? With his off-the-field behaviour raising increased suspicion, it can't be long before Coach Hudson, played by Steve Zahn, learns the truth about his star player.

The beloved petrolhead series hosted by the former Top Gear trio has finally run out of road. For this latest series of The Grand Tour, the presenters are handing the ignition keys to a new generation of car enthusiasts: the YouTube stars James Engelsman and Thomas Holland, creators of the acclaimed Throttle House, along with the social media trainspotter Francis Bourgeois.

Will they be able to recreate their predecessors' laddish chemistry as they tackle the Angolan desert, delve into Malaysia's souped-up car culture and put performance cars through their paces in California? Expect them to be buzzed by fighter jets, harassed by jackals and endure some near-death experiences along the way. This twisty Australian missing-persons thriller stars Patrick Bramall as police detective Ian Ridley, who is struggling with his life eleven years after the mysterious disappearance of his young daughter, Maggie.

Though he has all but given up on his career and relationships, he has not given up on Maggie, believing she is still somewhere out there. When he gets a call from a teenager in distress, he becomes convinced she is his missing daughter, then comes up against resistance from all sides as he tries to convince friends and family that he is not deluding himself.

Based on the Ryan David Jahn novel The Dispatcher, the drama also stars Maxine Peake, Brendan Cowell and Daniel Henshall. Sixteen-year-old Teagan is a talented rower with a bright future in the sport, but when her family is caught up in a scandal her prospects of becoming a champion sculler are scuttled. To get out of the heat, the family moves to the east coast, where Teagan is enrolled at an elite prep school.

When she discovers that it does not have a girls' crew, there is nothing for it but to elbow her way on to the boys' team, signing up as coxswain, but she is not home and dry yet. The boys' varsity crew is in chaos and needs some serious work to steady the ship. Soon the sparks are flying between Teagan and two of the team's hunks, arrogant captain Josh and star rower Cam. Parental warning: there may be snogging.

MI5's slovenly spymaster, still clad in his trademark threadbare socks, returns with his Slow Horses in a new season. At Slough House, the dumping ground for agents who have screwed up their assignments, Lamb and his team find themselves being targeted. Lamb will have to find a safe house and discover who is behind the attacks on his people. Fans of Jack Reacher will know Frances Neagley as the resourceful private investigator who has helped him crack many a case.

A former protege of Reacher's in a US army special-investigations unit, Neagley has some very specific skills, and while she may lack the lumbering brawn of her mentor, she has no shortage of brains and tech savvy to burn. This Reacher spin-off series starring Maria Sten begins right after the fourth series of Reacher ends.

The big guy himself, played by Alan Ritchson, will be making a few guest appearances, easy to spot since he will completely block out everything else on screen. Mostly, though, Neagley will have to fend for herself as she investigates the murder of an old friend.

Meanwhile, the crime drama welcomes a new fixer named Harry de Souza. He has some bad news for Conrad and Maeve: their enemies are getting more powerful and more ambitious, and their empire could soon crumble around their greying temples. The only thing for it is to hit back hard, but it is not long before Harry's loyalty to the Harrigans is sorely tested.

Joining the carnage for this new season are Paddy Considine, Emmett J Scanlan, Johnny Flynn, Janet McTeer and Toby Jones. Woody and Matthew are lifelong friends with an unshakeable bond. When Matthew's mom lets slip that the two may actually be brothers, they face an identity crisis that upends their lives and forces them to reassess who they really are. To add to the confusion, the pair are two of Hollywood's most recognisable faces, playing fictionalised versions of themselves.

The show was inspired by the real-life rumour that the two A-listers were actually brothers. For those craving international intrigue, a Spanish take on Sherlock Holmes arrives based on a bestselling novel by Arturo Pérez-Reverte. The new series is set on a small island off Mallorca and promises fresh mysteries for armchair detectives to unravel
