Strictly Come Dancing 's Shirley Ballas has opened up about her 'terrifying' cancer scare, revealing that she has undergone testing for the disease and lives in constant fear of succumbing to it.
Cancer has touched her family before, with Audrey having been diagnosed with colon cancer in 2018 - she is now in remission - and Shirley's grandmother, grandfather, and aunt all having battled the disease. She continued: "I did it at a mobile NHS unit in a Sainsbury's car park, and three days later they called me back to go into King's College Hospital in Camberwell. I was shocked as I do self-checks, and I'd had a self-check with another nurse a few weeks before for something else and she didn't feel anything. But the mammogram scanners can pick up small abnormalities."
On Friday, Shirley posted a photo of herself in bandages on Instagram Stories, alongside a strong message encouraging others not to neglect their routine screenings. The TV personality wrote: "Urging all women do not miss your mammogram. I went for mine, ended up going for a second one and a biopsy. Local anaesthetic biopsy done. Now waiting for results."
