'Stute secured their place in end-of-season play-off following final round of fixtures on Friday evening

Institute will slug it out with Ballymena United for the final spot in next year's Irish Premiership following a night of tension in the final round of Championship fixtures.

A win for either Annagh United or Bangor at the BMG Arena would have been enough to secure second place. 'Stute needed a draw between Ciaran McGurgan and Lee Feeney's sides while hoping they could pick up the points at newly-crowned champions Portadown. You could sense the tension throughout the night across the grounds with all three teams eyeing the win but worried about conceding at the other end. It looked like the two games would finish goalless draws until Kevin Deery's side finally broke the deadlock in injury time.As the other two hopefuls were playing out a 0-0 draw across Portadown Michael Harris struck his 12th and most vital goal of the campaign to date to send the travelling support into raptures.

Institute will now take on Ballymena United over two legs in the promotion/relegation play-off for a place in the Premiership next season. Join Belfast Live’s new Irish League WhatsApp group.
