Supercomputer calculates Premier League relegation places as survival fight goes to the wire
Aston Villa are predicted to suffer relegation straight back to the Championship - alongside Watford and Norwich. The January transfer window was relatively quiet last month, but there was business amongst the Premier League sides battling for survival.
West Ham just managed to sneak in the signing of Jarrod Bowen before the deadline hit, splashing a considerable fee on the Hull City forward as David Moyes looks to move the Hammers up the table. Bournemouth didn’t manage to sign any players before losing at Sheffield United last week, but Aston Villa added to their ranks with the quartet of Pepe Reina, Danny Drinkwater, Borja Baston and Mbwana Samatta. Southampton and Burnley took in a player each, with Kyle Walker-Peters joining the Saints on loan from Spurs as a replacement for Cedric Soares and Josh Bromhill heading to Turf Moor from Bristol City. Ondrej Duda and Lukas Rupp signed respectively from Hertha Berlin and Hoffenheim to bolster bottom-of-the-table Norwich. But according to the supercomputer run by footballwebpages.co.uk, last year’s Championship winners will end the season with just 27 points, and finish bottom of the Premier League table. It claims Watford will finish 19th on 30 points and Villa’s January recruitment will not be enough to keep them safe, predicting the League Cup finalists will finish 18th on 31 points - thus taking just six points from their remaining 13 fixtures. Norwich will finish the season having only recorded six wins and a massive 23 losses, whilst Watford will finish on seven wins and 22 defeats. Although they currently sit in 18th, the Hammers would be comfortably safe on 37 points, six ahead of the relegation places whilst Bournemouth would be 17th on 34 points. Brighton, Burnley and Southampton would all finish comfortably mid-table with 44, 43 and 40 points respectively. Surprisingly omitted are Crystal Palace, who currently have 30 points but are in the midst of a dismal recent run, having lost their last three league fixtures on the spin. With only a couple of wins between some of the clubs, the relegation battle is primed to go to the last.The Bottom Seven 14. Burnley: 4319. Watford: 30
