It comes after Asda dropped the price of butter in line with all the main supermarkets
We reported last week how Morrisons, which has been the dearest for a basket of eight shopping essentials since the end of July, had been knocked off the bottom spot by Asda.
Its bill for the basket, which also includes milk, bread, tea bags, coffee, beans, chicken and mince, now comes to £12.85, which is 11% more than the cheapest Lidl.The budget retailer has held the cheapest crown consecutively since the end of January and for the majority of the time since we first started our comparison back in March 2022.
Aldi however disputes the findings of our comparison, saying Lidl's mince is cheaper because it's 25% fat, its tea bags are heavier and of better quality and the tin of Sainsbury’s beans is 5% smaller than the Aldi equivalent.
