Support for Scottish independence rises in wake of Supreme Court ruling 🔴 A poll published on Wednesday put support for leaving the UK among Scottish voters at 56 per cent and the pro-Union side on 44%

The Ipsos poll suggested that this tactic was likely to succeed, with 53 per cent of those likely to vote saying they would back the SNP at the election in such a scenario.

However, there is no guarantee that such an outcome would actually result in Scottish independence, or even negotiations with whichever party forms the next UK Government. It also found that the SNP remain the dominant party in Scotland, enjoying 51 per cent support, up by seven points since the previous survey in May. Labour are currently on 25 per cent, up by two, while the Conservatives are on 13 per cent, down by six.

Public trust in the SNP to manage the NHS has fallen by 18 percentage points since then, with fewer people also saying they trust it to manage Scotland’s economy or schools and tackle inequality.
