Parents of some children previously born through surrogacy will be formally recognised as their child’s parents under new plans going to Cabinet this morning.
The amendment wil also recognise parentage in respect of certain past domestic and international surrogacy arrangements. The surrogate mother who gives birth to the child is the child’s legal mother and guardian. This is the case even if she is not the biological mother of the child.
An Bord Pleanala will be renamed and reformed as the Planning Commission under the plans. It comes following months of controversy at the planning regulator over alleged conflicts of interest.
