EXCLUSIVE: Anthony Burke told the Irish Mirror that he did not know Palani wanted to behead him before he heard evidence in court this week.

The brave survivor of double killer Yousef Palani has revealed how he could see "evil" in his attacker moments before he was knifed in the eye.

Burke also says he fears Palani - who targeted gay men because of his hatred for homosexuality - will kill again if he is released. Burke, 50, was the first man Palani met up with after chatting to him on the gay dating app Grindr and then on Kik, using the name "Joe King" and a false profile picture. However, Burke began to feel uneasy as psycho Palani was obsessed with trying to tie him up.

A CCTV image taken from a shop in the town was obtained by detectives and it was the first picture they had of a crazed Palani. On Monday, courageous Burke delivered his victim impact statement as coward Palani sat just yards away in the dock of the Central Criminal Court.Burke was hailed by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar for his bravery and role in catching Palani.
