The coastguard is watching the beach to see if it returns and bomb disposal experts are on standby.
A police cordon was set up after reports a bomb had washed up on Beer's beach and was removed about four hours laterHM Coastguard said it followed reports it received of an item on Beer beach at about 16:00 BST.
The device had been washed out by the tide before the bomb disposal team arrived and the cordon had since been lifted, a coastguard spokesperson said. The navy said it would send its bomb disposal unit back to the scene if the suspected explosive returned.Martin Richards, from Beer Parish Council, said it was believed a shell casing had washed up on the beach.from Beer Coastguard Rescue Teams said a 100m cordon was set up while emergency services dealt with the incident.
